Abstract:
The four panelists are PhD experts for the UN organization “Harmony with Nature”. According to Glenn Albrecht our mutual challenge (for the survival of humankind) is to shift from the Anthropocene to a Symbiocene, in which we consider Life as a common. In this webinar we’ll discuss this thesis and whether commons and common theory indeed may contribute to this transition. In that sense we’ll debate if the concepts of Gaia (James Lovelock) and the Symbiotic Planet (Lynn Margulis) link with commons theory, and we’ll debate whether commons theory link with ways of life/philosophies in South-America, Africa and Asia (Buen Vivir, Ubuntu and Bhutanese concept of Happiness). We include in this discussion local studies on commons that we conducted the past 30 years in Asia, Europe, South-America and Africa, and the findings of our PhDs. We will give four short panel presentations, together max 30 minutes, followed by a discussion with the participants.
